To a certain extent, IHC can be compared to GPS navigation: to find the place of interest, we must enter its address---which is a unique identifier---and the electronic navigator will bring us there. In IHC, the unique identifier is the structure of the molecule we want to detect, while primary antibodies serve as the chemical rather than electronic GPS navigator.
