Abstract

In this work all new available data on heat flow and a preliminary heat flow map of Greece are presented. The map (Fig 2) shows that the low heat flow values are concentrated in the Ionian Sea and Western Greece as well as in the southern area of Crete. In constrast, high heat flow values are observed a) along the active volcanic arc, b) within the central Aegean Sea (around Chios) and c) along the North Aegean Trench. Other regions displaying relatively high heat flow values are central and east Macedonia and the area toward north-east in central Greece and on the south margin of the Thessaly basin. Finally cetain aspects of the interpretation of the geothermal anomalies are discussed. -Authors
