Abstract

The degassing of alloy melt has become a hot topic in the field of metallurgy and materials. The purpose of this paper is to put forward a new route of electromagnetic stirring & directional solidification and re:melting technique for the degassing of aluminum alloy melt. The degassing feasibility and mechanism for the formation and grow-up of the bubbles during the process has been analyzed. The results show that the degassing efficiency increased with the decreasing of pulling-down rate, and after re-melting, the porosity area fraction of aluminum alloy was further reduced. The mechanical properties of aluminum alloys, such as tensile strength and elongation percentage, were greatly improved. It provides a good idea for the degassing of alloy melt, which is quite potential for the fabrication of high quality aluminum alloys.
