Abstract

The study of dispersive soil has a long history, and a worldwide effort has been undertaken to identify and characterize them through rigorous testing, in order to develop a comprehensive classification scheme. Ancillary research has utilized this data to develop products (i.e., filters and chemical additives) used to mitigate their affect on agriculture andwater-retaining structures. In many countries, major outreach programs have been developed to educate landholders, planners, and engineers to draw awareness toward the problems associated with dispersive soils.
