Stories illuminate real life experiences allowing others to investigate the inner experiences of an individual and draw connections (Webster and Mertova, 2007). My account is a reflection of my first year in the academy. This story uncovers my transition from school to university and provides a glimpse into my experiences of adapting to new roles and changing circumstances while learning to teach and research in the culture of higher education.
