Abstract

The review of synchrotron radiation (SR) research in the field of solid-state luminescence spectroscopy in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) spectral range is presented. The historical aspect of VUV spectroscopy with SR is briefly discussed. Some highlights of VUV luminescence spectroscopy are outlined, including such fields of activity as time-resolved spectroscopy of scintillator materials, crossluminescence, VUV spectroscopy of rare earth ions in solids. The possible future developments in VUV luminescence spectroscopy of solids, such as VUV spectroscopy with free electron laser, are discussed. © 2007 Springer.
