Abstract

A procedure for evaluating soil data for closure of surface impoundments is presented and illustrated with data from an actual case study. Steps in the methodology are: design of soil sampling program; evaluation of data, and determination of the extent of contamination by metals. The methodology uses geostatistics including variogram analysis, and point, block, and indicator kriging. The decision analysis, which is the final step in the methodology, is general enough to be adapted to different proposed regulatory criteria. -Authors
