Abstract

established fields of trade such as food and beverages. The learnings that are drawn from these experiences might fail to work for the CEOs of small businesses or those who work in niche areas. Though the author provided few recommendations to the readers, most of them are way too generic to be implemented by the founder CEOs of start-ups. The book is an easy read as the arguments were articulated well. Each interview account contained quotes from the CEOs and may make the readers stay connected with the flow of the book. In my opinion, it provides a good description of the pathway to become a CEO and may serve as a handbook for practitioners. Given the demographic, political, social, economic and technological conditions, challenges faced by firms in every country are different and context specific. This book offers answers for most of the questions that a beginner would have in the South Asian countries. Despite a few limitations of the book, it holds value regarding practical learnings and may serve as a motivation for the employees who aspire to become CEOs, new generation that holds family businesses, start-up aspirants and public sector employees who wish to run their organizations. I recommend this book to aspiring CEOs irrespective of the sector that they want to work in, to understand the requirements of the CEO role in the long run. It is a novel attempt by the author to bring the learnings of successful CEOs to the readers. I believe experiential learning is one of the most effective of learning methods that are available to a potential learner. This book contained a good description and analysis of experiences of some successful CEOs in India that adds immense value to the knowledge of readers. Akhila
