Abstract

Burns are tissue damage or loss caused by contact between the skin and a source that has a very high or very low temperature. Burns that usually occur in the community, one of which is burns caused by household activities, namely second-degree burns where the sensation caused is pain because the sensory nerve endings are irritated. Extensive burns that are not treated immediately can affect organ recovery. Burns must be treated immediately so that complications do not occur so that it can accelerate the wound healing process. The wound healing process is influenced by the drugs given. Traditional medicine is one type of treatment that is very popular with the community because of the availability of natural ingredients that are easily obtained and very minimal side effects. One of the plants used as traditional medicine is the messenger plant (Peperomia pellucida L. Kunth). This study was conducted to determine the effect of the ethanol extract of the suruhan leaf and to determine the effective concentration of the ethanol extract of the suruhan leaf in healing burns in mice. Burn wound healing activity test can be seen from the measurement of the burn area. Data analysis using One Way Anova. The results showed that there was an effect of ethanol extract of suruhan leaves (Peperomia pellucida L. Kunth) on the healing of burns in mice. The results of the measurement of the area of burns on the backs of mice showed the effect of the concentration of ethanol extract of suruhan leaves as burn healing, the most effective concentration in healing burns in mice was 50%.
