Abstract

To study Arctic sedimentation rates and to understand the U-Th systematics, samples from 9 cores were analysed for Th and U isotopes. As Th may be used to determine the origin of certain sedimentary components, barite samples were also studied. Analysis suggests that clay-rich cores from the deep areas of the Arctic Ocean provide a chronology by 230Th-based methods. The origin of minerals such as barite, present in Arctic Ocean sediments, can also be understood by Th isotope studies. -after Authors
