Abstract

This article examines the dynamics of China’s soft power strategy in the Middle East vis-à-vis the United States. By way of doing so, Beijing has moved away from its early focus on energy and trade relations to cultivation of bilateral and multilateral relations with Middle Eastern states via the Belt and Road Initiative that offers inter alia new energy, investment, and multilateral strategic cooperation.
