The theoretical review of scientific approaches to disclosure of the essence of the concepts ``emotional intelligence{''}, ``psychological well-being{''} is performed in the article. The state of mental health and psychological well-being of elementary school students evokes particular attention. Modern education is primarily focused on the intellectual development of students. Unfortunately, teachers do not pay enough attention to their emotional states that occur during the educational process. The emotional intelligence is a socially significant integrated characteristics of an individual that provides the ability to understand his/her own emotions and emotional experiences of others and manage the emotional state. Scientific approaches to understanding the phenomenon of ``psychological well-being{''} which is traditionally associated with mental health, emotional comfort, life satisfaction, a sense of human happiness have been reviewed. Among them, the most famous one is a model of psychological well-being developed by C. Riff. It has been proved that the high level of the development of emotional intelligence is a personal factor providing psychological well-being of an elementary school student. It has been determined that positive emotions, good well-being, positive self-esteem, expressed in satisfaction with one's academic performance and personal qualities, positive attitude towards oneself, others and the world in general are brightly manifested in junior school students with high emotional intelligence. The junior school students, who have the low a level of emotional intelligence maturity, are characterised by negative emotions, bad mood, negative attitude to the people around them and themselves.
