Abstract

Paromomycin was effective in clearing Cryptosporidium oocysts from the feces of a cat with persistent diarrhea. Paromomycin is a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside with known activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria as well as Giardia, Leishmania, and Entamoeba hystolytica. Paromomycin is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration, which probably accounts for its low toxicity documented in mice.
