Abstract

In Network Mobility (NEMO) protocol, the traffic for internal routing within the mobile network should be transmitted via external Internet by using a bi-directional MR-HA tunneling. This results in undesirable effects, such as longer route leading to increased delay, increased packet overhead and processing delay. We propose the intraNEMO Route Optimization (RO) scheme to solve the pinball routing problem in internal routing of nested mobile networks. The proposed scheme employs the routing cache of each nested MR for sharing the route information of the nested mobile network. Each cache entry is composed of simplified routing information by hierarchy architecture of nested mobile networks, enabling scalable and efficient cache maintenance. By using tree routing based on the proposed caching mechanism, the proposed scheme has less packet overhead and improves the latency of the data traffic in intra-NEMO data communications. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.
