Abstract

Abusive head trauma is the leading cause of fatal head injuries in children under the age of 2 years (Choudhary AK et al. 2018) with an annual incidence of 21 per 100,000 infants and an associated mortality of 30% (Trefan et al. 2016). It is reported that abusive head trauma causes more than 50% of significant brain injury cases (Choudhary AK et al. 2018) and accounts for approximately one-third of all deaths caused by non-accidental injury (Palusci et al. 2014).
