Abstract

Retinoids have been a significant component of cosmetic treatments for more than two decades. They remain important, particularly for the periorbital region where they serve as adjuncts to treatments or as primary treatment by themselves. One issue that remains a significant barrier to its wider use is irritation. Newer formulations seek to decrease this problem. Optimal cosmetic outcomes may be enhanced by the use of these products and may be maintained for a longer duration when used in conjunction. Retinoids remain a foundation of periorbital rejuvenation, and a working knowledge of these products is important for all physicians that treat this region.
