Abstract

Over the past 15 years major technological advances have been made in the field of automotive technology. Many research and development programmes (in Europe, Japan and the United States) have been devoted to the design and implementation of new driver support systems and information management systems (for route planning, obstacle detection, car-following situations, speed control and so on). © 2007 Springer-Verlag London.
