Abstract

Human trafficking is a multibillion-dollar industry that destroys thousands of lives around the world each year. People are sold without regard to their humanity or dignity into basically what amounts to modern-day slavery. Some are forced to do hard labor, while others are forced into permanent sexual objects for those who purchase them. Many advocates ranging from grassroots human rights groups to celebrities have mounted campaigns to bring awareness in an attempt to combat human trafficking. There are a plethora of laws and conventions domestically and internationally banning the trafficking and selling of humans. However, it seems they have not been effective enough to curb human trafficking.
