Abstract

This chapter discusses the metabolic roles of the ketone bodies, i.e. β-hydroxybutyrate, acetoacetate, acetone, in neuronal excitability, with emphasis on the mechanisms behind their direct anticonvulsant activity in relation to the ketogenic diet.
