Understanding in vitro techniques (including their correct use and analysis), controlling variables appropriately during testing and proper alloying regimes are crucial to the continued development of Mg-based biomaterials. Progress in this bio-Mg area has been hampered by a lack of coordination, along with a lack of appropriate standards and insufficient cross-disciplinary collaboration. A database should be established to allow comparisons between reported tests, as well as to facilitate the creation of suitable models to predict performance of future alloys.
