Abstract

• Tinea capitis is caused by dermatophyte infection (Microsporum and Trichophyton sp.). • Clinical findings include well-demarcated circular plaques with broken-off hairs. • Certain Microsporum species fluoresce when the scalp is examined with a Wood's lamp. • Hair and skin scrapings should be sent for culture if there is a clinical suspicion. • Treatment is with oral antifungal agents such as griseofulvin. © 2008 Springer-Verlag.
