Abstract

The emphasis for many corporations today has shifted from the construction of new facilities to the maintenance of existing ones. An Automated Mapping and Facilities Management System can be the means for an organization to efficiently manage its assets. The collection, organization and maintenance of a coordinated set of facility data is the goal of the AM/FM System. There are, however, a number of potential barriers to a successful AM/FM System. An organization must understand the roadblocks to a successful system and develop management concepts to overcome them. These management concepts include: management commitment; a programmed approach; the conversion process; information vs. data; culture shock; organizational parochialism.-from Author
