Abstract

Lots of research has been done on smart cities to clarify the definitions, dimensions, performances, and initiatives all over the world. Recently there is a shift of the focus in these research from technologies oriented on infrastructure to citizen-oriented applications. Education plays an important role in sustainable development and livability of a city, as it promotes creativity and innovation. However, only few studies can be found on smart cities from the educational perspectives. This chapter, after discussing the definitions and applications of smart cities, is proposing a dual-core framework of smart cities. It is stressing the relationship between creativity of cities and the citizen’s livable experience closely related to learning environments in a city. The chapter concludes with the discussion on the relationship between development of a smarter city and smart learning environment.
