Abstract

In this chapter, we review assessment, treatment, risk management, and service delivery as it applies to male sexual offenders with intellectual and neurodevelopmental disabilities. Treatment relapse is discussed from the perspective of recent research showing that relapse is related to the context in which the behavior is reinforced. The chapter discusses the applied behavior analysis (ABA)-based multicomponent behavioral treatment (MCBT) that we have developed in our residential program over the last 10 years. Further, we review case studies on the young people that we have supported and have been able to follow-up since their discharge from the program. The case studies highlight the need for all agencies to work together effectively to keep everyone safe and that for some clients, current time-limited, 'treat and hope' programs are not always successful in the long term. The chapter concludes with legal and ethical issues faced by behavior analysts and suggestions for future research. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
