According to the classical hypothesis, the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is secreted in the cerebral ventricles, it circulates as bulk fluid “downstream” from ventricles along subarachnoid spaces to be absorbed into venous sinuses. Furthermore, increase of intracranial pressure (ICP) and development of hydrocephalus are postulated to be a consequence of obstruction of CSF circulation between these secretory and resorptive sites.
