This chapter covers three diverse topics: whitefly anatomy, feeding behavior, and courtship and mating. In previous volumes of the Bemisia series (Gerling 1990; Gerling and Mayer 1996), Gill (1990) reviewed whitefly anatomy from a systematics/taxonomic perspective and Harris et al. (1996a) covered the internal anatomy of whiteflies, specifically the alimentary canal, salivary glands, and ovaries. We avoid overlap with these earlier reviews by covering whitefly anatomy from a structure-function perspective and discussing internal anatomy only briefly, although the alimentary canal required more detail to correct a previous misinterpretation and incorporate new information from more recent studies. Feeding and courtship behavior are reviewed here for the first time. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2010.
