As we move closer to the promise of personalized and targeted therapies for brain tumors, models that reflect the complexity and heterogeneity of brain tumors are expected to lead to more predictive models and new approaches for therapy. As tumors may commandeer the cues that govern normal cell growth during development, the next generation of therapies is likely to result from an improved understanding of developmental neurobiology. Armed with robust preclinical GEM brain tumor models, we are now uniquely poised to discover and evaluate new therapies. ©2008 American Association for Cancer Research.
