Abstract

In this paper, we propose the prototype of a new phototherapy apparatus that ensures a safe and effective therapy against neonatal jaundice. It use the high power LED (with the wavelength within a specified range) as the light source and allows the medical care personnel to adjust the light intensity and the place of the body to be irradiated according to the symptom and jaundice index. The light intensity of each module is adjustable separately at each therapy stage to treat the patient in an orderly way. The current status of the therapy can be monitored by the medical care personnel on the monitor to make appropriate adjustments. According to the test and the measurement of the photo-characteristics, the 100% luminance of this system is 2.5 times the luminance of a blue lamp and its wavelength is fixed at 460nm. Therefore, this proposed LED phototherapy apparatus is better than others.
