Abstract

The interpretative reading of the antibiogram consists of the analysis of the sensitivity pattern to try to predict the resistance mechanisms that could be present in the different bacteria. To perform the interpreted reading of the antibiogram, it is necessary to know the spectrum of antimicrobials, certain pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics, as well as the main mechanisms of resistance to them, thus allowing their use to be optimized with respect to the initial empirical choice and therapy sequential during the treatment of the different bacteria. The objective of this report is to establish both natural and acquired resistance patterns for the main bacteria of importance in clinical practice to allow a selection of the optimal antimicrobial therapy with the consequent decrease in antibiotic resistance.
