Abstract

Ribonuclease A, which normally has an extremely low activity towards poly A and double-stranded polyribonucleotides, acquires the capacity to degrade these substrates when in the form of aggregates. The rates of degradation of poly A or double-stranded MS2 RNA by the highest order aggregate (presumably a tetramer) are significantly greater than those obtained with the dimeric and, particularly, with the monomeric form of the enzyme. However, the different aggregated forms of ribonuclease A degrade single-stranded Escherichia coli RNA at approximately the same rate. © 1971.
