Abstract

We are lucky to be living in the age of analytics, data science, and big data. These three fields represent probably the most promising areas and future direction in the current Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) sectors and disciplines. While a bright future seems to lie ahead of us, the responsibilities and qualifications of a data scientist, or more broadly, data professional, are often not clearly defined, despite the fact that the role of data scientist has been described as the sexiest job in the twenty-first century [121]. At times, it seems that everyone on the street currently lays claim to being a data scientist.
