Abstract

Collaborative studies on the application of capillary gas-liquid chromatography for the determination of trans unsaturated fatty acids are described. The method investigated involves preparation of methyl esters with methanolic potassium hydroxide followed by analysis of fatty acid methyl esters by gas-liquid chromatography on polar capillary columns. Care has to be taken in selecting working conditions to obtain the best obtainable resolution of signals necessary for reliable identification and determination of trans unsaturated fatty acids. © 1997, Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston.
