Abstract

Certain antibiotics present in milk interfere with the phosphatase test. Penicillin and oxytetracycline form a blue color with the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, giving a false test. Streptomycin and neomycin inhibit, under certain conditions, the formation of blue color up to 50%; non-pasteurized milk cannot be taken for pasteurized. © 1971, American Dairy Science Association.
