Abstract

This chapter analyses the coverage of the IPCC AR5 report in six developing countries (Bangladesh, Chile, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Uganda), which all had a relatively low coverage. Premised within the development journalism framework, the analysis explores the contributing factors to the low coverage and highlights several similarities, including the considerable focus on the devastating impacts of climate change as well as the climate justice frame. The authors revisit the ideals of development journalism, stressing a bottom-up approach that gives citizens a chance to voice their concerns in the media, while giving more solution-oriented stories bringing hope instead of focusing on disaster.
