Abstract

This chapter discusses the important functional groups of dissolved organic carbon, a basic introduction to the organic chemistry of dissolved organic carbon, and how functional groups of natural organic carbon interact with water. This chapter will be most useful for those just entering the field of organic geochemistry. The initiated may wish to browse the chapter and continue reading in Chapter 4.
