Despite the concerns of modest toughness and reliability coupled with high cost, engineering ceramics are being successfully deployed in an increasing number of applications. This success has been due to the optimization of both the fabrication route and material composition. The microstructure of these ceramics have been tailored to provide specific thermo-mechanical properties for particular applications. The development of net-shaped injection moulding processes has made the manufacture of these materials economic.
