Abstract

Peter Buneman has exerted a major influence on my career. Among many other things, we worked together in early 1990s on the design of query languages for post-relational data models: nested relations, complex values, etc. Later on, his pioneering work on data provenance was the major influence on my own work on provenance. It therefore feels very appropriate to me to write for this Festschrift a piece in which languages for complex values and structures for provenance tracking come together. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
