Past, present and future applications

Abstract

While we presented in the preceding chapters to a large extend basic physical properties of ZnO, which are, however, in many cases just the basis of and thus relevant for applications, we concentrate in this chapter on the applications themselves. We go from past applications in Sect. 13.1 to present and emerging ones in Sect. 13.2. Applications, which are according to the point of view of the author presently still highly speculative, will be presented in Sect. 13.3 as visions of future uses of ZnO and ZnO-based structures.
