Abstract

Even though minicomputers are widely used in industry they are slow to gain acceptance in computer science education. However, because of its increasingly great impac t on industry and its potential as a teaching device, the minicomputer should be considered a part of the computer science curriculum. This paper proposes a minicompute r laboratory course at the lower division level emphasizing hands-on use, fundamenta l computer concepts in conjunction with “computer lore”, and problems peculiar t o machines. Also, an upper division course is suggested which emphasizes demonstration o f advanced programming techniques. © 1974, ACM. All rights reserved.
