Abstract

This chapter provides the practitioner with an overview of information that will assist in understanding Neuropsychological Reports and engaging Neuropsychological services. The chapter begins with a definition of neuropsychological assessment and identification of the three main questions that can be addressed by neuropsychological assessments, as well as identification of the type of questions a neuropsychological assessment cannot answer. The remainder of the chapter examines three common areas of deficit that are assessed as part of any neuropsychological assessment: memory, executive functioning, and language. For each area, the following are provided: (1) definitions/models and related physiology, (2) prevalence in relation to specific disorders/diagnoses, and (3) an overview of rehabilitation strategies. © 2007 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
