A method for estimating the occupancy rates of public transport vehicles using data from weigh-in-motion systems

Abstract

The paper presents a method for estimating the occupancy rates of public transport vehicles directly on the base of data recorded by the Weigh-in-Motion system. Analysis of measurement data led to propose the analytical form of the function describing the occupancy rate of the vehicle, depending on the result of gross weight measurement. Moreover the correction factors were determined in order to achieve an acceptable accuracy of the method.
