Juvenile autoimmune liver disease has been recognized only recently in the history of medicine. Autoimmune hepatitis in young women was first described in the 1950s, juvenile autoimmune sclerosing CHolangitis in the 1980s and de novo autoimmune hepatitis after liver transplantation in the 1990s. This CHapter explores the peculiCHities of autoimmune liver disease in CHildren and adolescents, their possible pathogenic meCHanisms, their management and their outcome.
