Abstract

This introductory chapter outlines the aims and rationale of the book. The authors present the argument for why it is important and timely to know about teacher educators and how such knowledge can enhance the experiences of those in the profession and, in turn, the quality of their work with students of teaching. In an era of constant change in teacher education, it is crucial for universities and other policymakers and stakeholders to know who is teaching prospective teachers in universities, why they are there and how they approach the work of educating the next generation of teachers.
