Abstract

This chapter provides readers with an insight into the technical aspects of pyrolysis and gasification of biomassBiomass using microwave heating. The chapter will begin with a brief overview of biomass conversion involving pyrolysis and gasification followed by a description of the process and mechanisms involved in microwave heating of biomass. An in-depth discussion on factors affecting microwave heatingHeating and strategies to improve the efficiency and product yield and quality of biomass pyrolysis and gasification is provided. Research results from authors' labs are included in case studies. Finally, further research and development is suggested in conclusions. The bibliography provides a collection of references helpful to researchers who are interested in starting programs in this area.
