Abstract

Malaysia was the first major country in Southeast Asia that changed its relations with the People’s Republic of China (PRC) when both countries exchanged diplomatic recognition on 31 May 1974. As a rising power, China has, since the early 1980s however, attracted grave attention from Malaysia, Southeast Asia, and from other major countries in the world.
