Gastrointestinal surgery is commonly performed for various indications in the upper gastrointestinal tract. There are a number of unique complications that arise in this patient population and require specific knowledge for proper management. This chapter will outline various structural and motility-related complications following the most common surgical procedures in the upper gastrointestinal surgery. Each section will review the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of the specified complication, with special emphasis placed on endoscopic management when appropriate.
