Abstract

The play is a universal phenomenon with specific characteristics which can be influenced by the context and culture where the individual grows. The chapter illustrates the act of play of children from 5 to 6 years old, living in a shelter in a capital of the Amazon region. The main results indicate that the choice of play, theme, and peers varied depending on the context and gender. The study showed that, regardless of the context, children play and elucidates the flexibility in use of space and greater professional training, in order to stimulate the engagement of children in a large and diverse roster of games.
