Abstract

The development of an integrated earthquake early warning (EEW) and structural health monitoring (SHM) system is presented in this study. This approach provides more accurate, reliable and immediate earthquake information for society using our regional system together with the national (JMA/NIED) EEW system, especially against Miyagi-Ken Oki earthquakes, based on advanced real-time communication technology. The system has been implemented in two buildings, in Sendai and Oshika, and has capability for on-line SHM. Utilization of EEW combining SHM is described together with future perspectives.
