Abstract

Field observations around Bantry Bay, south-west Ireland, taken during July and August 1991. followed the development of discoloured water arising from a bloom of the rcd-lide dinoflagellate (Gyrodinium aureolum). Physical data suggested that the bloom had advected towards the coast from the shelf. This was supported by biological evidence that the bloom had not developed in siiu. The origin of the bloom is discussed. © 1993 Conseil International pour l’Exploration de la Mer.
