Abstract

Summary form only given. EMC entails conducted and radiated emissions. The author focuses on basic control techniques for radiated emissions. A philosophy for controlling radiated emissions is outlined. Shielding can be an effective means for limiting circuit and cable radiation. An alternative is to implement broad level solutions which quench the emissions at their source. The origin of cable radiation is motivated through a conceptual model. An unbalanced driving circuit is shown to cause common-mode cable current, which then radiates as a wire antenna. Various mitigation techniques are then identified. The use of cable shielding as a mitigation technique is explored.
